Over the years, the Indian Premier League has provided a perfect platform for young and aspiring cricketers to showcase their talent and their calibre. The 'Emerging Player of the Year' award in the IPL rewards the best young talent who impresses with his ability and maturity and promises a bright future
The youngsters who won the prize are touted to have become successful for their countries – many of them did, some couldn't. However, in the fifteenth edition of the league, we saw several young talents amusing everyone with their raw talent. Out of these numerous youngsters, three players who showed a brilliant display of cricket are considered top contenders for the emerging player award. Let us look at these three young guns who stunned everyone with their exceptional cricket.
Tilak Verma
A good left-hand explosive batter from Sunrisers Hyderabad has had an impressive season with the bat this year. Tilak Verma has proved himself a significant asset in MI's wrecked batting line-up in the absence of the Pandya brothers and Pollard's poor form. His sensational knock of 61 off thirty-three deliveries against the Rajasthan Royals justified his potential as a great middle-order batsman and what level player he is! In the 2018-19 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the youngster made his T20 debut for Hyderabad. He had a great outing in the tournament. Due to his brilliant performance in first-class matches, MI bagged him in the mega auction with huge expectations, and the youngster justifies the team's expectations brilliantly. In his 12 innings so far, Verma has smashed 368 runs with an average of 40.36 and a strike rate of more than 130. Verma was also part of India's Under-19 squad in 2020. MI is a franchise known for grooming many young players into a match- winners. Tilak Varma can be the next match-winner produced by Mumbai Indians.
Mohsin Khan
Mohsin Khan, a 23-year-old pacer from a small town in Uttar Pradesh, is emerging as one of the young sensations the league has produced. Although he is classified as a medium-pacer, he still can clock deliveries around 140 kmph. Mumbai Indians bought the youngster in 2017; however, he didn't get any opportunity and just warmed the bench for three seasons. However, in the mega auction, Lucknow Super Giants showed faith in the young talent he justified in the match against Delhi when he dismissed Rishabh Pant with an absolute stunner. From setting Pant up with a barrage of short balls before pushing the length fuller to do him into flummoxing an unsuspecting Liam Livingstone of the Punjab Kings with a slower ball, Mohsin Khan has been ticking all the right boxes. In his six matches till now, the pacer has clinched nine wickets with an impressive economy of 5.17. He has shown he can be handy with the bat, scoring an unbeaten six-ball 13 against the Kings. This youngster indeed seems to shine in the future as a bowling sensation with his outstanding skills.
Mukesh Choudhary
Maharashtra's young talent showed everyone what a perfect comeback is! It has been an astonishing turnaround for Mukesh Choudhary after a lousy start to the season till he took 3/19 in three overs against Mumbai Indians, including four in the first five matches of IPL 2022. His stunning Yorker to Ishan Kishan was a show stopper, leaving everyone in complete awe. Though it took him time for the pacer to deliver such a performance, he has now carried forward the confidence shown in him by the team management and played a crucial role in Chennai's close win. In the IPL mega auction, the left-arm pacer was roped in by CSK for his base price of INR 20 lakhs. The youngster has clinched 16 wickets in his 11 innings with an outstanding average of 22.19. In the absence of CSK's prime bowler Deepak Chahar, Mukesh has done his job prolifically as a power-play bowler. Mukesh Choudhary has been one of the emerging players in the IPL 2022 who has impressed everyone so far.
