IPL match preview: Mumbai Indians v Sunrisers Hyderabad
The Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad will meet for a key 2023 Indian Premier League clash at the Wankhede Stadium.
In order to qualify for the play-offs, the Mumbai Indians must win this match and trust other results go their way, too. The Sunrisers Hyderabad cannot qualify for the next stage of the tournament, but can fight off the very bottom of the standings.
Mumbai are the most successful team in the history of the tournament with five titles. They are hot in pursuit of a sixth title here. It didn't look likely at the start of the season, when they slumped to several defeats. They've had a great end run.
The Sunrisers have pride to play for and could finish in second-last rather than last position - that's something. With a new head coach and new captain, it was probably never going to be straight forward and the Sunrisers.
Let's see what Brian Lara and Aiden Markram can do for their team in these closing throes. There's a lot to be said for upsetting five-time champions and doing other teams, such as the Rajasthan Royals, a favour.
Hyderabad and Mumbai have effectively taken it in turns to beat each other in their last five meetings. Mumbai have three wins to the Sunrisers' two.
Umran Malik has been declared fit to play for SRH. He is one of the outright fast bowlers on display in the Indian Premier League and could take advantage of conducive conditions in Mumbai.
Suryakumar Yadav struck 83 not out against the Royal Challengers Bangalore and followed it up with a century against the Gujarat Titans. The Mumbai batter is in fine form.
As much as they'd like to, Hyderabad won't likely outdo Mumbai here. Rohit Sharma and company have plenty of momentum to capitalise on.
