IPL match preview: Delhi Capitals v Chennai Super Kings
The Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings will meet for one of the last matches in the 2023 Indian Premier League before the play-offs start.
The Super Kings have all but booked a play-off berth despite winning only two of their last five matches. Delhi are not going to advance to the next stage of the tournament - and must fight to stay away from the very bottom of the 10-team standings.
Chennai will go into this match in the wake of defeat to the Kolkata Knight Riders, who exposed frailties others might look to exploit going into the business end of the 2023 IPL. Delhi will have homeground advantage here.
Delhi managed to pull off victory over the Punjab Kings recently and can take that momentum into this match, too. The Capitals have won three of their last five matches, but it's a case of too little, too late, for a team that remain without a maiden IPL title.
Spinners Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav performed well for the Capitals against the King and could take advantage of conducive conditions in Delhi, which has one of the slowest pitches in this season's IPL.
Chennai have won all of their last three matches against Delhi. Their most recent victory came less than 10 days ago. Let's see how things will pan out for this return leg.
Deepak Chahar's return from injury has been a big boost for CSK. As one of the best seam bowlers on display this IPL season, Chahar has taken seven wickets in his last three matches.
David Warner's fine form has tailed off somewhat as the 2023 IPL has progressed, but the Australian opener is still among the top match-winners at the tournament and should be vital to Delhi's cause again.
Chennai should win this one comfortably. But the same could have been said against Kolkata, when CSK lost. Delhi can upset superior opponents, but it's not likely this time.
