IPL match preview: Chennai Super Kings v Sunrisers Hyderabad
A win here could get the Chennai Super Kings to the top of the standings, subject to other latest results in the 2023 Indian Premier League. The Sunrisers Hyderabad are trying to steer clear of the bottom.
The Super Kings will go into this match on the back of a high-scoring victory over the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Devon Conway starred with the bat and Tushar Deshpande with the ball for CSK at the time.
Deshpande's role will be in the spotlight again. He's effectively being selected in the absence of Deepak Chahar, who is the stronger option but has been sidelined by injury. Deshpande is a great find with the new ball for CSK.
The Sunrisers' most recent result was defeat to the Mumbai Indians. There is no shame in losing to the five-time IPL winners, but a quick response is required by Hyderabad. They'll be hard pressed in Chepauk, which is a veritable fortress for the home team.
Umran Malik did not play against Mumbai and it'll be interesting to see if SRH return him to the XI for this match. They missed his outright pace and, in Chennai, his extra speed could do well in conducive conditions.
Chennai have a dominant record over Hyderabad. The Super Kings have won four of their last five meetings with the Sunrisers.
Harry Brook has collected a century in the 2023 IPL, but has otherwise been inconsistent. He'd like to prove he's not just a one-hit wonder for the Sunrisers. Brook has been prolific for England, but is struggling at franchise level.
All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has had a relatively quiet 2023 IPL. Now could be his time to put in a big performance with bat and ball for CSK against their old rivals.
The Chennai Super Kings are looking primed for success against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Their playing XI and impact player substitution options offer more balance than for SRH. CSK, remember, are chasing a record-equalling fifth IPL title.
