IPL legends Chris Gayle and AB de Villers were inducted into RCB Hall Of Fame
Some of the biggest names in cricket have worn the Bengaluru-based team's jersey over the years, including Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, and AB de Villiers, and have wowed RCB fans with their incredible performances
The Royal Challengers Bangalore management honoured two of their previous stars, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle, into their Hall of Fame, recognising their team's success.
Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers have a large fan base in India, thanks to their time with the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise of the Indian Premier League (IPL). As a result, it's no wonder that these two stars were named the first two entrants into the team's Hall of Fame. Mike Hesson, Director of Cricket, and former captain Virat Kohli inducted the batting greats into the Hall of Fame.
West Indies batting stalwart Gayle, who has played seven seasons for RCB, said: "I want to thank the RCB family for the opportunity, for everything. It's been really special to me as well. And to be inducted is something fantastic, and I will always keep RCB close to my heart."
De Villiers, who had joined the induction digitally, was very emotional and felt delighted. "To the RCB boys sitting there, what an amazing privilege. Quite emotional to be honest," he said.
The selection of ABD and Gayle for the inaugural RCB Hall of Fame induction is based on three primary criteria:
- The Player must have played for RCB for at least three years.
- The Player must have had a significant impact on the RCB brand both on and off the field.
- The Player must not be currently participating in the IPL.
The right-handed batsman has been a fan favourite since his RCB career and has formed a robust partnership with Kohli when it comes to de Villiers. Over the years, the former Proteas captain has been one of RCB's most important players, frequently saving them from difficult situations. He meets all of the franchise's requirements, so his selection was not unexpected.
Gayle also meets the bill at the moment because he is not playing for an IPL franchise this year. Unlike 'Mr 360,' however, the 'Universe Boss' has not yet retired and has indicated his intention to return to the cash-rich league.
Virat Kohli, the former Indian skipper, also got emotional and said that with his inventiveness, intelligence, and sportsmanship, AB has genuinely transformed the game of cricket, embodying the RCB Play Bold attitude.
Virat further said that he saw recordings of them changing the way the IPL played throughout the years. Two individuals have had a significant impact on the IPL and RCB's current status.
Both AB de Villers and Chris Gayle have accomplished many milestones by their name in their career but let's have a look at 2 of them in detail below:
