No stopping to Umran's fastest deliveries: Umran Malik, in a fixture against Punjab Kings, won the 'fastest delivery of the match' for the 14th consecutive time on Sunday
The pacer clocked 153.5 kmph in the last league match, this is a big achievement for the bowler. Irrespective of the fate that the result of the game holds, he has won the fastest delivery of the match award in every match he has played. He ended his IPL season on a high note, scalping 22 wickets in 14 games at an average of 20.18. What caught everyone's attention in the match against Punjab was his fiery bouncer to Kings' skipper Mayank Agarwal that hit him in his ribs.
Concerned fans took to Twitter to express emotions:
One of the fans tweeted, "Will he bowl bouncer now to Mayank Agarwal??
#IPL2022 #SRHvPBKS
Just take this guy to foreign soil soon...Umran Malik."
"Umran Malik's tear-away pace has injured Mayank Agarwal's ribs; he is in so much pain but has decided to continue batting.
Dear Umran Malik, please don't injure Indian batters, perform well, then go to Australia for T20 World Cup and then break the opposition's face." reads the tweet of another fan.
Apart from this, the young pacer also got a maiden call for Team India in the upcoming T20 series against South Africa in June 2022.
Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle expressed his content and wrote, "Delighted to see Avesh, Arshdeep & Umran Malik in the squad; and to think that Khaleel & Mohsin could have made the cut too; Good that the skills of Dinesh Karthik & Bhuvi have been recognised."
Irfan Pathan tweeted, "Congratulations to Umran Malik for getting selected to the Indian team. A huge moment for this young lad."
- Livingstone: a perfect all-rounder
While Punjab Kings registered a five-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final league stage match, a lot of credit went to their perfect all-rounder Liam Livingstone. He, as a batter, put on a brilliant show to smash 49 (not out) in just 22 balls. This quickfire added a lot of momentum to the chase game. He hit five sixes in the game, one of which also became the 1000th six of IPL 2022. Before putting up a brilliant show with the bat, he helped his team by taking one of the stunning catches to dismiss Abhishek Sharma, who was stitching a fine inning for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Mufaddal Vohra tweets, "UMRAN MALIK DELIVERS A 153.5KMPH DELIVERY AND LIAM LIVINGSTONE SMASHES THAT FOR A SIX.
LIAM LIVINGSTONE IN THIS IPL 2022: -
INNINGS – 14
RUNS – 437
AVERAGE – 36.42
STRIKE RATE – 182.08
4S/6S – 29/33
WHAT A PLAYER. THE MVP FOR PBKS."
The wicket took place in the 11th over of the game when Harpreet Brar's flighted delivery enticed Abhishek Sharma to swing his bat. The batter backed himself and went for a big shot - over the long-on fence with the lofted drive. Liam Livingstone, who was patrolling in the zone, waited for the ball and then perfectly timed his jump to grab it with both hands. Livingstone held the fall and landed right in front of the ropes, ensuring that he didn't touch the advertisement skirtings to send the batter back after scoring 43 off 32.
