IPL 2022: Most Dismissals against Spinners
Batting against spin bowling is always challenging, and many players fail to withstand spin bowling. In the fifteenth edition of the Indian Premier League, too, many batters lost their wickets against spin bowling
However, some batters failed against spinners. Let us look at some of these batters who were often dismissed by a spinner.
Shreyas Iyer
The Kolkata Knight Riders' skipper is highly reputed for his explosive batting. However, in this season of IPL, his performance has been quite average. One of the big reasons for his poor batting this season is his failure against spin bowling. Iyer had been dismissed several times against spin, which is the most dismissal against spin for any batsman this season. This season, two of the six dismissals to wrist spinners have been to chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav, who used the wrong one to good effect on both occasions as he got him stumped the first time and caught behind in the next. In his 12 innings, Shreyas Iyer has scored just 130 runs against spin bowling. His strike has been 123.80, which is relatively low compared to his potential. The skipper's overall performance has been average, as he has scored 336 runs in his 12 innings with an average of 30.5.
Quinton de Kock
The destructive Lucknow Super Giants' opener is having a good season this year. However, De Kock has failed against spin this season. In his eleven innings so far, de Kock has scored just 130 runs against spin and was dismissed five times, which is a big concern for the South African opener. His strike against spin has been 139.2. Quinton de Kock, a dangerous batter, struggled immensely against the off-spinners, which is a cause of concern for the Super Giants as it puts pressure on the batters in the middle overs. However, this season's overall stats have been quite palpable, as he has amassed 344 runs in 11 innings, compensating for his weakness of playing against spin by scoring against pacers.
Kieron Pollard
With a vast experience of playing the role of a finisher in various leagues worldwide, he was now an established one. However, the season has been a string of low scores for the West Indian power-hitter. Kieron Pollard has severely failed to score runs against spin this season. In his 11 innings so far, Pollard has been dismissed five times by spinners. He is highly reputed for his explosive batting in the death; however, this season, his strike rate against spin has been just 82.2, which clearly shows his performance against spin. Pollard is a crucial player in Mumbai Indians' squad, and his underperformance is one of the many reasons for the team's failure this season. In his 11 innings till bow, Pollard has scored just 144 runs with a poor strike rate of 107.7, which is terrific considering the reputation of the power-hitter.
Robin Uthappa
The Chennai Super Kings opener also has his name on the list due to his five dismissals against spin bowling. Although Uthappa has had a great season, his failure against spin is a big concern for CSK as the team cannot maintain the opening stand. Uthappa is usually a destructive batter, and he has been portraying this fact throughout the IPL; however, against spin bowling, his strike rate drops below 140. Uthappa has managed to score just 51 runs against spin bowling in the current season, which is disappointing for the right-handed opener. However, his overall performance has been impressive. In his 11 innings, he has scored 229 runs with an average of 22.9. He has also smashed two half-centuries this season.
