IPL 2022: Five Rookie Players that have or are expected to Impress Fans
The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League started off with a bang and cricket fans were thrilled to see high-quality cricket from all the 10 franchises.
The IPL is known for showcasing undermined domestic talents, and likewise, the ongoing edition has shone the spotlight on talented budding cricketers. These young players have been improving under the guidance of senior players and management has done a great job honing them. These rookies are further expected to create a wave in the international cricket circuit. Here are a few names we have gathered!
Rajyavardhan Hangargekar (Chennai Super Kings)
Rajyavardhan Hangargekar is a prodigy and a rare Indian talent who could bowl at a speed of more than 140kph. In addition, he is also positioned as a match finisher. Although his talents lie in bowling, he can also swing his bat and play big shots with little effort. He was an important member of the Under-19 World Cup title-holding Indian team in 2022. Unfortunately, his XI entry into CSK’s batting lineup depends upon the form and performance of domestic fast bowler Tushar Deshpande.
Tilak Varma (Mumbai Indians)
The 19-year-old Tilak Varma was a member of India's Under-19 World Cup-winning team in the West Indies in 2022. His IPL career took off on a good note as he scored 22 off 15 balls. As a batter, he is confident and sure while his bowling tactics border on off-spin. Blessed with good reflex and height, this talented player is an asset for the Mumbai Indians, a side that focuses on nourishing young talents.
Yash Dhull (Delhi Capitals)
India's Under-19 captain Yash Dhull has not made his IPL debut but his memorable victory at the Under-19 World Cup 2022 where he led the team. Dhull executed an identical 113 runs delivery in both the innings of his Ranji Trophy debut playing for Delhi. So the right-handed batter entered the IPL in terrific form. He is a technically sound batsman but is capable of bowling spins too. However, Delhi Capitals already have a saturated batting lineup which means he'd have to wait to receive a chance.
Ayush Badoni (Lucknow Super Giants)
Ayush Badoni is a man who plays to impress. He is a right-handed batter and his performance is known to overshadow his unkempt looks. He is powerful and confident when he hits the cricket ball. Hailing from Delhi, he struck a fifty on his IPL debut after which he secured a 19 not out in order to push his franchise to their maiden IPL win. Rather than the runs he amassed, his batting style and range of shots caught everyone's attention.
Abhinav Manohar (Gujarat Titans)
Another batsman who had a great start to his maiden IPL game this season is Abhinav Manohar. He has made his mark as a pinch hitter throwing 15 off 7 balls, including two boundaries in the last over against Lucknow Super Giants. The cricket community now knows of him as a destructive batter, especially in death overs.
