IPL 2022: Fastest Individual fifties
Indian Premier League is a tournament where the game changes its course every few overs, and it becomes challenging for a team if left a lot behind
A batter can change his gears at an unprecedented pace leaving no chance for the opposition to restrict the flow of runs. While this pace accelerates the scoreboard for the team, it also leads to record-breaking fifties and hundreds for players. Discussing a few fastest fifties that we got to witness in this season:
1. Pat Cummins (vs Mumbai Indians)
In the 14th match of IPL 2022, Pat Cummins created an all-time IPL record by smashing a 14-ball 50 against Mumbai Indians while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders at a strike rate of 373.33. His unbeaten 56 off 15 balls helped KKR register a 5-wicket win over MI while chasing a target of 162 given by Mumbai Indians. Before Cummins took to the field, the match almost looked in the hands of Mumbai Indians, but the Australian Test captain was exceptional at hitting four boundaries and six maximums as he smashed Daniel Sams for a massive 35-run over.
His 14-ball 50 is the joint-fastest fifty with KL Rahul, who scored 50 in 14 balls against Delhi Capitals in 2018.
2. Liam Livingstone (vs Gujarat Titans)
Second on the list comes Liam Livingstone, who holds the record for the longest six in the ongoing IPL season. Apart from the longest six, the batter scored a blistering 64 runs off 21 balls in a clash against table-toppers Gujarat Titans while playing at a phenomenal strike rate of 237.03. The English all-rounder appears twice in this list. Apart from second highest, the batter has the tenth quickest half-century, smashing 60 off 26 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The power-hitter has no stopping once his muscles are flexed well against a particular bowler.
3. Rahul Tripathi (vs Kolkata Knight Riders)
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s batter Rahul Tripathi finds the third spot in the list of fastest fifty. Tripathi got his half-century completed in 21 balls and continued to fire a blistering score of 71 off 37 at a strike rate of 191.89 against his former franchise Kolkata Knight Riders, in the 7th match of this IPL. His fantastic knock in the middle helped SRH seal a seven-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders while chasing a target of 176. His knock included four boundaries and six sixes, completely dominating the Knight Riders’ bowlers.
4. Jonny Bairstow (vs Royal Challengers Bangalore)
In the 60th match of the ongoing IPL, Punjab Kings openers Jonny Bairstow smashed a 21-ball half-century against Royal Challengers Bangalore to provide his team with a scintillating start in a must-win clash. Asked to bat first, Bairstow hit Josh Hazlewood for 22 runs in the second over of the match itself. The English wicket-keeper was on fire and further collected 23 runs from the last over of the powerplay bowled by Mohammed Siraj. His onslaught performance helped PBKS smash 83 in the powerplay to become the team with the highest score in Powerplay this IPL.
