Indian Premier League: Three IPL teams whose fortunes will change if Cameron Green joins their squad
Australian player Cameron Green has left everyone astonished in the series against India, opening the batting for the first time in T20Is. He scored two fifties in three games to return with 118 runs struck at 214.55 and averaging nearly 40
Though he is not a part of the T20 World cup squad, he holds a bright future while playing for Australia. Not only that, he can potentially become a big-money player in the upcoming IPL 2023 auctions.
"Some teams (in IPL) might think of using him in the powerplay and might go after him in this year's auctions unless and until he pulls out. I am sure some team will break the bank for him in this year's auctions," said the India bowler Ravichandran Ashwin.
Let's look at the three teams who need a player like him and can empty their banks to grab this power-hitter for IPL 2023:
Led by Kane Williamson, Sunrisers Hyderabad lacked stability in their top-order batting. In the previous edition, they opened with the inexperienced duo of Abhishek Sharma and Priyam Garg. The franchise lacks overseas all-rounders. They have only Romario Shepherd as the designated all-rounder in the squad, who failed to make the most of his chances.
The addition of Cameron Green can resolve a lot of issues for the franchise. Being a seamer all-rounder and having the potential to bat at various positions is a central plus point that SRH management will love to have.
Punjab Kings is the second franchise that can target the all-rounder in the upcoming auctions. They have one all-rounder, Liam Livingstone, for whom they crashed their banks and can do that again. The skipper Mayank Agarwal didn't show much good form, and having Cameron Green in top-order can strengthen their weakness.
With the capability to bowl, he can be a good asset for the franchise and can change their fate.
Kolkata Knight Riders is one of the teams desperately needing a backup for their mainstay all-rounders. The team is highly dependent on Andre Russell to fulfil the role over the years and has been the backbone of the franchise.
However, looking at the long-term prospect, the team needs fresh and young talent to tick all the boxes of an all-rounder. We also saw Kolkata Knight Riders being highly unstable with their opening pair. They tried multiple players at that spot but failed to find a potent combination. Thus, having Cameron Green can solve that trouble and be the answer to the franchise's major problem in IPL 2023.
