Indian Premier League: New coaches announced in IPL- Trevor Bayliss to coach Punjab Kings and Brian Lara as Sunrisers Hyderabad's Coach
Ahead of the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League, an exciting development surfaced as two IPL franchises, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings, have appointed new coaches in the supporting staff
Parting with Tom Moody as their Head coach, the Orange Army needed a high-profile replacement for their team. And the management has done it reasonably well by appointing legendary West Indies batter Brian Lara as the new head coach 2023 edition onwards.
Brian Lara was recruited by the 2016 IPL champions as the batting coach and strategic advisor in the 2022 edition and will now replace Tom Moody as the head coach.
In the statement released by SRH, the franchise said, "The cricketing legend Brian Lara will be our head coach for the upcoming #IPL seasons. As his term with us draws to an end, we would like to thank Tom for his contributions to Sunrisers Hyderabad. It has been a much-cherished journey over the years, and we wish him the very best for future endeavours."
Tom Moody served as SRH's coach from 2013-2019, having the best season in 2016. Having parted ways before 2022, he re-joined the franchise last year as Director of Cricket. But results being far from favourites has once again led to the management parting ways with the coach.
Apart from Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings are set to sign World cup winning coach Trevor Bayliss as their head coach for the upcoming edition with an expectation that the Australian guide them to the title.
Trevor Bayliss has a long association with the Indian Premier League. He had his recent assignment with Sunrisers Hyderabad and has quite a winning experience being in a coaching position. Apart from leading England to their maiden ODI World Cup title in 2019, he headed the support staff of Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012 and 2014, when they won the title.
He's coming in place of Anil Kumble, whose contract has not been renewed with the franchise owing to his failure to take the team to play-offs in his three-year term.
"The team has decided to go ahead with Trevor who is among the best in the business and has a proven record. The management is hoping that the team goes on to win the title under his guidance," an IPL source told PTI.
The paperwork and the official announcement are yet to be done. Another critical decision that management has to take is regarding Mayank Agarwal's captaincy. According to speculation, the management might go with Jonny Bairstow as the captain for the upcoming edition.
