Indian Premier League guns firing in T20 Vitality Blast
Three weeks since the fifteenth edition of IPL finished, and the cricketing world moved forward with other domestic and international series
But players who participated in the IPL become like a sword, always in noise. England's Vitality series is again in talks because of a few IPL players who took ground to the storm in recent matches.
Tim David: Lancashire Lightning
Tim David, while benched for initial matches of the Indian Premier League, he emerged as one of the biggest power-hitters for struggling Mumbai Indians. Of the eight innings he played in IPL, he smashed 186 runs, averaging 37.20 with a strike rate of 216.28. Soon after IPL, the batter landed with Lancashire Lightning for T20 Vitality Blast and has been an integral part of the team since then. He has scored 306 runs in 10 innings with a strike rate of 186.6, consisting of two-half centuries. He's one of the crucial knocks that came recently against Northamptonshire, where the batter smashed four sixes off successive balls to rocket the total but still ended up on the losing side.
Daniel Sams: Essex Eagles
Daniel Sams represented Mumbai Indians in IPL and played a vital role as an all-rounder. The player, scoring just 38 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 105.56 with the bat, scalped 13 wickets, carrying an economy of 28.46. And now, while playing for Essex Eagles in Vitality, he has scored 94 runs in 5 innings at a phenomenal strike rate of 200. Of these 94, 71 runs came against Sussex, where he smashed 71 runs off mere 24 balls, climbing his run rate to 295.83. Apart from that, he has taken six wickets in 7 innings while carrying an economy of 9.04.
Sunil Narine: Surrey
Having played for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL, the West Indies all-rounder is now playing for Surrey in Vitality. The all-rounder had an average season with the bat in IPL as he could score only 71 runs in 10 innings. His bowling figures were also not impressive if we see the number of wickets, as he took nine in 14 matches. However, what made the team stick with the bowler was his economy of 5.57, which is very impressive regarding the shorter format of games.
And now, while playing for Surrey, his numbers have improved quite a well. He has scored 170 runs in 7 matches, which consists of one of his match-winning knocks of 51 off 29 against Essex Eagles. Apart from that, he has taken nine wickets in 8 innings with an economy of 5.70. Undoubtedly it's a good sign for the player to regain his form after a disappointing IPL.
Kieron Pollard: Surrey
From struggling to play at a strike rate of 107.46 in this IPL for Mumbai Indians to improving and smashing at a strike rate of 154.5 for Surrey, Kieron Pollard looks to have found his form back. The power hitter has scored 85 in 4 innings, his highest being 34 off 22. It was his highest score since 41 against England in Barbados in January. The 34 runs left behind the most distressing moments of his career and restated his credentials as he helped Surrey defeat Hampshire.
Washington Sundar: Lancashire Lightning
Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar is also all set to play for Lancashire Lighting in England after recovering from a hand injury. The youngster struggled with injury issues while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the concluded season of IPL. Having played only nine matches, he ended his tournament with 101 runs and six wickets. He has been suffering injuries continuously since 2021, rendering him unavailable for many international games.
And now, according to the BCCI sources, he has fully recovered and will play county cricket to gain practice in the red-ball format.
A BCCI source said, "Washington is nearing full fitness and he needs a lot of game time, which he will get only in red ball cricket. He is going to play for Lancashire and this exposure will do him a world of good."
He will be a great addition to the team, considering his all-rounding ability to perform.
