Indian Premier League: Foreign contingent in IPL teams benefitting in International cricket series
The Indian Premier League is considered a perfect stage for young talents to showcase their talent to the world. We have many examples of such youngsters who made their way to international cricket
However, IPL has been not only a game-changer for the youngsters but also the experienced players who have been struggling with their form. Many international and Indian players have used IPL to regain their form and find a place in competitive cricket. Let us look at some of these players who have benefited hugely from IPL at an individual level to get back their form and recognition.
Jonny Bairstow
The English wicketkeeper-batsman has been a part of IPL for a long time and has been established quite well in the league. However, he struggled with his poor form in domestic and international cricket for a long time. While most Englishmen prefer to play county championships rather than other leagues, Jonny Bairstow was one of those players who chose IPL over county cricket. He believes the league, has flourished significantly and is one of the toughest T20 tournaments globally. Before the IPL, Bairstow had been inconsistent in the international squad due to his dismal form. However, in this season of IPL, Bairstow observed it as an opportunity to regain his lost form and scored 253 runs in the 11 matches averaging 23.
After the IPL season, there has been a significant comeback from the English batter. In the current England vs New Zealand Test series, Jonny Bairstow smashed an outstanding ton to sail his team towards a stunning win. With this century, the batter announced his comeback from the poor form he was struggling with. After which, he said that IPL had played a significant role in this.
Glenn Maxwell
Glenn Maxwell is another player who has benefited significantly from IPL. Glenn Maxwell, who is now known for his explosive batting, has been a critical winning factor for RCB for the past two years. In the pre-IPL period, Maxwell struggled with his batting and bowling. When he played for Kings XI Punjab, he then also struggled to find the proper position and stance to play. However, the last two seasons of IPL have turned out to be a game-changer for the all-rounder. This year, fans had huge expectations from the Aussie all-rounder after having a terrific outing in IPL 2021, in which he scored 513 runs in 14 innings. He carried this form to the 2021 T20 World Cup and had a decent tour. However, soon the player was seen displaying disappointing performance on international platforms. Coming back in the fifteenth edition of IPL this season, Maxwell scored 301 runs in 13 innings with an appreciable strike rate of 169.10. His incredible and quick batting in the middle order was what RCB needed. And now, in ongoing Australia vs Sri Lanka series, Glenn Maxwell scored an astonishing 86 in the first ODI, defining the statement on what form he is in post IPL.
