Indian players who have won the MVP award in IPL
The IPL season has come halfway through, and we get a glimpse of who can win the MVP award this year. The “Most Valuable Player” in IPL is awarded the cricketer with the most points throughout the IPL season
Interestingly the term “Most Valuable Player” came into existence only in 2013. From the inaugural edition of IPL till 2012, the award was known as “Man of the Tournament”. Let’s take a sneak peek at all the Indian players who have won this prestigious award since the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League.
Virat Kohli
After Royal Challengers Bangalore’s poor record in previous editions, the batting master headed into IPL 2016 with a mission to make.
Kohli, who captained RCB and frequently opened the innings, virtually single-handedly led his team to the finals of the 2016 edition, where SRH narrowly defeated them. However, he was deservingly awarded the MVP title.
After scoring an incredible 973 runs in the event, Kohli was awarded the Orange Cap, which has yet to be broken in a single edition. In this edition, he also set a new record with four centuries. The Indian concluded with an 81.08 average and a 152.03 strike rate.
Since then, the standard of Kohli has been held very high, and people expect way too much out of him. Even if he hits 500 in a season, people believe that he has not played up to the expectation.
Harshal Patel
IPL 2021 was the year Indian bowler Harshal Patel achieved several feats in that year as he got many three-wicket hauls and five-wicket hauls. He also won the purple cap and was the Most Valuable Player of the season without any surprise.
The main factor in his bowling that separated him from others was the proper use of variation and slower balls. He used to bowl death overs for RCB with a significant presence of mind which made it possible for him to get 32 wickets in the 15 games he played. His economy was only 8.14, which makes sense considering the overs he used to bowl.
Sachin Tendulkar
The Indian legend left his name in every league he played, and IPL is no exception. The T20 format was new at that time, but he left no stone unturned.
Sachin won the Man of the Tournament award in 2010; the award’s name has now been changed to Most Valuable Player. But it doesn’t change the fact that it is the most significant award of the season so that we can consider him for the list. Little master Sachin Tendulkar was named Man of the tournament for his outstanding batting performance. He got the orange cap for scoring the most runs in the IPL 2010. Sachin Tendulkar was a member of the Mumbai Indians from the first season till his retirement in 2013. Sachin Tendulkar scored 618 runs in 15 IPL matches in 2010. During the event, the master blaster also hit five half-centuries.
