India VS Zimbabwe: Three takeaways from the series
In the last assignment before Asia Cup 2022, India registered a thrilling 13-run win in the final ODI to clinch the series win by 3-0 against Zimbabwe
With a second-string squad in action at Harare who was young and inexperienced, KL Rahul and co showcased their ability to deliver under pressure and yet b clinical throughout.
Here are three key takeaways for India from the recently concluded ODI series against Zimbabwe:
Shubman Gill- Deserves more run at the top
The year has been fantastic for Shubman Gill. The young Player guided his franchise Gujarat Titans to their maiden IPL title early this year, following which he was the Player of the Series in the ODI series against the West Indies.
He carried forward his form from the Caribbean soil to Zimbabwe and oozed out pristine class in each shot. He has been a consistent all-format player for India and, in the series against Zimbabwe, smashed unbeaten 82, 33 and 130 (maiden century in ODIs). Before these three, his scores read 64, 43 and unbeaten 98.
In a short career of 9 ODI games, he is averaging 71.29 and a strike rate of 105.25. He deserves more chances to ascertain his place, and a healthy performance at the top order can bag him a place for India's 2023 World Cup.
Though Deepak Chahar missed the Asia Cup spot, he returns with a bang
Deepak Chahar hadn't played any competitive cricket since February owing to his injury before finding inclusion in the squad for Zimbabwe's tour.
The right-arm seamer put forward an impressive performance in the first ODI, trapping Innocent Kaia and Tadiwanashe Marumani to return with figures of 3/27. Rested for the second ODI, the bowler went a little expensive conceding 75 runs in his spell of 10 overs but took two crucial wickets.
Though put among standby players for Asia Cup 2022, his performance was highly crucial to determine his spot in future tournaments
Kuldeep Yadav is getting ready for the ODI World Cup
The wrist-spinner was once an indispensable part of the Indian team. MS Dhoni-led team won many ODI matches with the help of the Kul-cha duo, but later, Kuldeep Yadav was left behind, and Yuzvendra Chahal went on to become the current favourite bowler for India.
After an excellent IPL comeback performance, Kuldeep Yadav was selected for the West Indies and Zimbabwe tour. During the West Indies tour, he got just one T20I match, but In the clean sweep of Zimbabwe, Kuldeep Yadav gave an excellent performance and proved his worth when he was given all the ODI matches to play.
He put forward a pretty economical performance returning to ODI after six months. With figures of 0/36 in 10 overs to bagging 1/49 and 2/38, the series emerged as a morale-boosting one for Chinaman in limited overs cricket.
This game plan of management for Kuldeep Yadav reflects on their plan with him. He has missed the Asia Cup squad in the T20 format and will likely miss the T20 World Cup. Indian team management is preparing him for the ODI World Cup next year, and he will be seen in many ODI matches coming in for the team.
