India Vs England News: Ageless James Anderson and spat between Virat Kohli and Jonny Bairstow
Veteran James Anderson became the oldest bowler in this century to collect five wickets in an innings
James Anderson of England, 39 years and 337 days old, became the most senior bowler in this century to take five wickets in an innings. On the second day of the rescheduled fifth Test match against India at Edgbaston, Birmingham, he claimed five wickets for 60 runs (July 2).
Speaking of Anderson, he was benched for England's away Test tour to the West Indies earlier this year following a disastrous Ashes campaign in which the visitors were defeated 4-0. Anderson was recalled to the team for the home series against New Zealand, but the selection of Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum as England Test captain and coach gave him another chance.
Oldest Bowlers who took five wickets in an Innings
Rangana Herath: Rangana Herath of Sri Lanka is the oldest bowler to get five wickets in an innings this century. When the slow left-arm orthodox bowler got six South African wickets for 98 in Colombo in 2018, he was 40 and 126 days old.
Bert Ironmonger: A slow left-arm orthodox bowler for Australia, he is the oldest player to take five wickets in a Test inning. On February 12, 1932, in Melbourne, he took six South African wickets for 18 runs at the age of 49, 311 days.
Muttiah Muralitharan: The previous oldest bowler to defeat India with five wickets was Muttiah Muralitharan. On July 21, 2010, at Galle, the Sri Lankan off-spinner took five wickets for 63 runs at the age of 38, 95 days.
Virat Kohli and Jonny Bairstow were seen laughing at stumps on Day 2 of the Test, and the next day, things were reversed.
During the 32nd over of England's innings in the fifth Test at the Edgbaston in Birmingham on Sunday, former India captain Virat Kohli and wicket-keeper batsman Jonny Bairstow got into a heated altercation. Before umpires Aleem Dar and Richard Kettleborough intervened to separate the players, Virat and Bairstow exchanged words.
