India vs England: Mayank Agrawal's wildcard entry
The fifth Test against England is from last year's incomplete series which got spilled to this season due to the Covid-19 outbreak in the Indian camp
The Indian specialist opener, Agrawal, has been called to England as a backup of Rohit Sharma who has been rendered doubtful for the Edgbaston Test against England after testing positive for Covid-19. Mayank Agarwal is the top priority for selectors as an opener right now. His test career has been phenomenal as of now, and he lost his position as an opener before because of an injury.
Mayank Agarwal’s Test Record
Mayank has an average of 41.33, Scoring 1488 runs in 21 Tests so far. His last test match was against Sri Lanka at home in the month of March. In the last two-test series, he was not impressed with the bat and scored just 59 Runs(33, 4, 22) in three innings.
Mayank Agarwal’s IPL Record
Mayank represented Punjab kings in the Indian Premier League 2022. He just scored 196 Runs from 13 games and Punjab kings was sixth in the ranking.
The drawback of choosing him as an opener is that he will only get two opportunities to bat properly before needing to get ready to take on bowlers like James Anderson, Stuart Broad, and Matthew Potts, who are dangerous, and the batsman needs to play with techniques to face these bowlers.
India's Final Test squad: Rohit Sharma (captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari, Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant (wk), KS Bharat(wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, Mohd Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohd Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Prasidh Krishna, Mayank Agarwal
