ICC Rankings: Jasprit Bumrah climbs to fourth spot in Test rankings
In the latest MRF Tyres International Cricket Council Test rankings, Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah made significant movement up the table following his remarkable contribution in the recently concluded India-Sri Lanka Test series.
This form could be good news for the Mumbai Indians as the Indian Premier League starts on March 26.
Jasprit Bumrah - an exceptional talent
Jasprit Bumrah jumped six spots, from 10th to fourth, due to his recent good form in the Test series. With this feat, he went past key bowlers Shaheen Afridi, Kyle Jamieson, Tim Southee, James Anderson, Neil Wagner and Josh Hazlewood. Jasprit Bumrah along with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, remained in this year's BCCI central contract as A+ players.
Bumrah, in the recent Day/Night Test against Sri Lanka in Bangalore, bagged his maiden Test-five wicket haul. In total, he grabbed eight wickets to help India win by a huge margin of 238 runs.
Commentator and former West Indies bowler Ian Raphael Bishop took to his Twitter to praise the pacer with some kind words. He wrote: "The man is a generational talent: Bumrah.". Apart from him, former Indian cricketers Mohammad Kaif and VVS Laxman lauded Jasprit Bumrah for his spectacular performance in the pink-ball Test against Sri Lanka.
Other changes in the ICC ranking
On one hand, where Jasprit Bumrah climbed the ranking ladder, India's star batter Virat Kohli slipped to the ninth position in the latest ICC rankings. Virat Kohli, in the previous Test match, scored just 23 and 13 in the two innings respectively, leading to a decline in his Test average to below 50 for the first time in his career. He is yet to score a century since his 136 against Bangladesh in November 2019.
Jason Holder reclaimed the top spot, replacing Ravindra Jadeja in the International Cricket Council All-rounder ranking list. In the Pink ball test, Shreyas Iyer's match-winning innings of 92 and 67 runs against Sri Lanka rewarded him with a giant leap of 40 spots to be placed at 37th place in the list. Mohammed Shami climbed up a spot to displace fellow countryman Ravindra Jadeja to 17th.
Next Destination: IPL Mumbai Indians
Spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and skipper Rohit Sharma joined the Mumbai Indians camp after conclusion of the Pink ball Test series. The five-time winners will kick off their IPL 2022 campaign against the Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium on March 27.
