Five young names who should be part of the world cup squad, looking at their current performance in IPL 2022
The IPL is one of India's most popular spectator sports, with some spectacular finishes. Simultaneously, this league is well-known throughout the world for generating several rising stars, both in India and overseas.
Not to mention, players like Rashid Khan and Hardik Pandya have put in a lot of effort in this competition to get to the top for their respective nations.
This year too, we have some exciting talent in the league who can be clinical for their nation in the upcoming world cup if given a chance to prove themselves.
Let's look at five of them who are making their stand strong for a call from the national side.
Umran Malik
Umran made his debut in the 49th match of IPL 2021 against Kolkata Knight Riders. When Malik emerged on the scene, the speedometer went into overdrive; In his second match, he bowled the fastest delivery by any Indian in the tournament's history, clocking in at 152.95 Kmph. In the IPL, fast pace is a select club. High pace from an Indian who is still only 21 years old distinguishes Umran Malik as the rarest of the rare – and Sunrisers Hyderabad eventually retained him.
The pace battery has been phenomenal this IPL season and is getting better with every match as he is gaining experience and has found his rhythm. He could be the biggest match-winner for India if given a chance in the upcoming world cup. As the forthcoming world cup is in Australia, the pitch would favor pacers making Umran even more deadly.
"After the IPL, they will start preparing for the international matches again. We have an Asia Cup and then the World Cup. They will have to try him [Umran] out in one of them. On the bouncy pitches of Australia, he can easily take out the Asian batters, whether they're from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, or whoever India plays. Maybe the Aussies could play him," said former Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif.
Rahul Tewatia
This player needs no introduction. He is known for making the impossible possible as he has led his team to targets that didn't look chase-able under normal circumstances.
The best thing about Rahul Tewatia is that he can accelerate his innings according to the situation, which just shows how mature he is. He was selected for a series against England in February but hasn't made his debut for India yet.
Rahul Tripathi
Rahul Tripathi is an exceptional batsman and has come in handy for all the teams he played for in the Indian Premier League.
This year, Tripathi has been in fantastic form for SRH. For quite some time, the right-hander, who represents Maharashtra in domestic cricket, has been a steady performer in the IPL. He also became the first uncapped player to score 1500 runs in the IPL.
Before joining the Rajasthan Royals, he enjoyed a breakout season with the Rising Pune Supergiants. He subsequently went on to play some crucial innings for KKR before being purchased by SRH for a staggering INR 8.5 crore in this year's auction.
Dewald Brevis
The South African sensation has already gotten all the praise for the talent he has, as the 18-year-old is already hitting the ball out of the park without any hesitation. The young talent is full of confidence and is justifying his name "Baby AB".
He might get a call from South Africa in the upcoming world cup because of the performance and intent shown by him in this season of the Indian Premier League and Under 19 World Cup. It's crystal clear that he's an upcoming star and will turn many games in favor of Proteas when he gets a chance.
Shah Rukh Khan
Regarded as one of the most hard-hitting batters in the domestic arena, Shahrukh could take his game up a notch for Punjab Kings, who bought him for Rs 9 crore. However, the key to the batter's exposure at the highest level may depend on his batting position in the tournament. So far, in 16 matches in IPL, Khan has scored 213 runs at a strike rate of 129.88.
He could prove to be a vital player for India as there are no such power hitters on the national side yet.
