Five Wickets haul this season in IPL
With every passing match of the fifteenth edition of the Indian Premier League, we witness many brilliant performances leaving everyone in complete awe. There are not just the batters ruling the league, but bowlers are also stunning everyone with their exceptional bowling skills
In the current season of IPL, there have been multiple fifers registered by some bowlers with their outstanding bowling display. Till now, four bowlers have clinched a five-wicket haul in the tournament. Let us have a look at these ace bowlers to nail the fifers.
Wanindu Hasaranga
The Sri Lankan leg-spin bowler was looked up as an essential asset of the RCB's bowling line-up after the mega auction where he was bagged for a whopping amount of Rs.10.75 cr. Hasaranga justified each penny the team spent on him in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. In match 54 of the IPL, while chasing the target of 193, Hyderabad collapsed for a score of just 125. The significant contribution to RCB's 67 runs wins goes to Wanindu Hasaranga. In four overs, he conceded just 18 runs clinching five wickets. The Sri Lankan leg-spinner ran through the SRH's batting line-up, scalping dangerous players like Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, Jagadeesha Suchith, Shashank Singh, and Umran Malik. After dismissing Aiden Markram, Hasaranga returned to take the wickets of Nicholas Pooran and Jagadeesha Suchith in successive overs. In his 12 matches so far, Hasranga has clinched 21 wickets with an appreciable economy of 7.85, consequently becoming the second-highest wicket-taker.
Umran Malik
The young uncapped player from Srinagar was retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad after his brilliant performance the previous season. In the match against Gujarat Titans, Umran justified the team's trust in him by clinching a five-wicket haul. The Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer displayed some exemplary fast-bowling skills against Gujarat Titans. Malik picked up the wickets of Shubman Gill, GT skipper Hardik Pandya, Wriddhiman Saha, David Miller, and Abhinav Manohar in return for just 25 runs. In the match against GT, Umran was the bowler to get wickets. Batting first, SRH set a target of 196 for GT. However, they completed the target in 20 overs, winning the match by five wickets. Though Malik's efforts went in vain, the impact he left was sensational. In his eleven games so far, Umran Malik has clinched 15 wickets till now at an average of24.27. He is the second youngest Indian bowler in the IPL to take a five-wicket haul. His age was 22 years 157 days when he achieved this feat.
Yuzvendra Chahal
The Rajasthan Royals leg spinner is completely ruling the 2022 edition of the league with his top-notch performance till now. There seems to be no stopping for Yuzvendra Chahal this season, as no batter managed to withstand him. Chahal justified his reputation and the team's amount on him in the match against KKR. The way he turned the game for RR with his fifer was utterly outstanding. In his five wickets haul, he clinched wickets of Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Mavi, Pat Cummins, Venkatesh Iyer, and Nitish Rana. In this five-wicket haul, he also nailed a hat trick which turned out to be the first and the only hattrick of the season. Chahal has 22 wickets to his name in 11 fixtures, with an average of 14.50. He also owns the Orange cap taking the most wickets this season.
Jasprit Bumrah
As the current season is going terribly for Mumbai Indians, this is the underperformance of many key players and Jasprit Bumrah. However, in the match against KKR, Bumrah regained his form by taking a five-wicket haul. In match 56 of IPL, bowling first, MI restricted the opponents at a score of 165. An enormous contribution to this bowling display was Jasprit Bumrah's fifer. He clinched crucial wickets of Andre Russell (9) and Rana, Sheldon Jackson (5), Pat Cummins (0) and Sunil Narine (0) in the 18th over, a maiden, to bring MI back into the game. In return, he just conceded ten runs in his four overs, turning out to be one of the best bowling displays we have ever seen in the league. However, his superb effort went in vain as MI lost this game against KKR by 52 runs. In the season so far, Bumrah has grabbed ten wickets in the 11 matches with an average of 31.4
