Final exit for Justin Langer, Cricket Australia appointed Andrew McDonald as the new head coach
Justin Langer has resigned as coach of the Australian men's cricket team, effective immediately
This was announced via a statement from DSEG, Langer's management company.
"DSEG confirms that our client Justin Langer has this morning tendered his resignation as of the Australian men's cricket team," the statement said
Justin Langer's contract with Cricket Australia was to end in June 2023. Renewal of agreement was to be discussed after the T20 World cup and Ashes. He left despite Australia winning the T20 World Cup and Winning the Ashes. Currently, he has denied accepting any position from ECB.
His position as a coach became tenuous in August when players and support staff staged a full-scale mutiny over Langer's intense and volatile micromanagement style, forcing him to take a back seat.
Andrew McDonald has been named head coach of the Australian men's cricket team
Cricket Australia said on Wednesday that McDonald's contract had been made permanent after serving as interim coach. Andrew will be in charge of coaching all formats for the Australian team.
"The great challenge for coaches and players is to manage your workload across the four years," McDonald said. "I'd like to think I have the coaching staff to step up, and we can elevate certain coaches at different times to take on different tours and different challenges".
