England started their day from 111/3 and lost two quick wickets only after South Africa bowled seven overs. South Africa had a good start, but Skipper Ben Stokes and Ben Foakes completely dominated the day after.
A 173-run partnership playing 54 overs between the duo took England to 320/6. After two early wickets in the first session, South Africa took the next wicket directly in the third session in the form of Skipper Ben Stokes.
After Skipper returned to the pavilion, England accelerated the run scoring as they played by a run rate of 5.52 in the next 17.2 overs scoring 95 runs that took England's score to 415/9. They declared their innings without sending their last batter to call the visitors to bat for the remaining nine overs left.
Anrich Nortje was the most successful bowler for Proteas picking three wickets, along with Kagiso Rabada, who took two wickets. Lungi Ngidi, Simon Harmer and Keshav Maharaj were clinical in keeping the economy below four.
South Africa successfully managed not to lose any wickets in these nine overs. They have scored 23 runs and are now trailing by 241 runs.
After two days, the pitch has flattened, so South Africa could still have a chance if they also bat long on day three. The England team, criticized after their first defeat, would be in an aggressive mindset for the rest of the match and series.
