Alex Lees (67 runs) was also impressive, but the opener will be rueing his luck for not cashing in for more runs following his maiden Test fifty, and Ben Stokes played a cameo of 46 off 33 balls late on as England closed on 473-5 in their first innings. Ollie Pope played brilliant 145 runs and got out eventually by Trent Boult. Earlier Alex Lees made fifty, and Lees and Pope had taken England's score to 90/1 at stumps on Day 2.
New Zealand Leading wicket-takers: Trent Boult took three wickets by conceding 89 runs, and Matt Henry took one wicket by conceding 128 runs.
England Leading Run Scorers: Joe Root Scored 163 not out from 200 balls faced with 25 fours. Ollie Pope scored 145 runs from 239 balls with three sixes and 13 fours.
