England Vs India 5th Test Day 2 : Jasprit Bumrah steals the show on day 2
A typical English day of test cricket, with lots of rain interruptions. India dominated on day 2. Ravindra Jadeja’s ton, followed by Jasprit Bumrah’s stunning cameo with willow and then a three-wicket haul for the skipper. It was India’s day
Firework from India’s tail-enders
If Day 1 was about Rishabh Pant’s 146, the second day commenced with Ravindra Jadeja smashing his first overseas century, overall, third test ton before James Anderson bowled him out for 104. After Ravindra Jadeja’s show with the bat, skipper Jasprit Bumrah took to the field and in no time smashed Stuart Broad for the most expensive over in the history of Test cricket. He hit 29 runs in one over to remain unbeaten at 31 off 16. The tail-enders performed stunningly to take India past 400 and post a total of 416 from the first inning. Dismissing Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj, James Anderson completed his five-wicket haul.
India’s dominance continues with the ball
As England took the fields for their first inning, their top-order remained a matter of concern. Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets. Alex Lees to start with for the breakthrough, followed by Zak Crawley, and after a short rain break, Ollie Pope was returned to the pavilion by the bowler. Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root looked to play that anchoring role, but a snorter delivery from Mohammed Siraj broke the stand by dismissing Joe Root. Mohammad Shami struck night watchman Jack Leach for a duck before Ben Stokes joined Jonny Bairstow on the crease. And with this, England got reduced to the same level as India was before Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja, i.e., 84 at a loss of 5 wickets.
It will be interesting to see if Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes will play similar roles as Pant and Jadeja to cover the trail of 332 runs or if Indian bowlers will find early breakthroughs on Day 3.
