England players rocked by earthquake in Antigua ahead of ODI series

On Saturday, an earthquake in the Caribbean woke several England players on tour in the West Indies.

All-rounder Will Jacks was not one of the tourists woken by an earthquake registering 5.2 on the Richter scale 80 kilometres to the south east of the Caribbean island at 4:48am, but revealed several teammates described their rooms shaking in the minutes afterwards.

There was brief concern that what happened could trigger a tsunami but no damage has been reported.

“I actually wasn’t (woken up),” Jacks said. “I woke up about 6am, saw the messages on the group and couldn’t really believe it.

“Some of the guys said their whole room was shaking and everything so it’s a bit weird.

“I’m quite a deep sleeper. I don’t wake up for anything. (Harry) Brook messaged me saying ‘is there going to be a tsunami?’ But it’s all good now.”

West Indies captain Shai Hope said: “I didn’t wake up, but I felt something. It’s just nature. You can’t control it.

“It’s not like a hurricane, you get some warning, but you’ve just got to hope it’s not too serious.”
