England vs South Africa 2nd Test: Ollie Robinson and James Anderson folds up South Africa to an inning win
Battered and bruised after losing the first test match by an inning at Lords to winning the second match by an inning and 85 runs, England has avenged their loss. The comeback match answered all the questions raised on England's 'Bazball' approach
Attempting to cover a massive lead of 264 runs by England in the first innings, Proteas fell short of good play in their second innings. Sarel Erwee and Dean Elgar resumed their play but failed to capitalize despite staying for long on the crease.
Keegan Petersen and Rassie van der Dussen got into a stubborn partnership of 261 balls, denying England any easy wicket. But the duo could fetch only 87 runs from this mammoth stand. However, skipper Ben Stokes grabbed the much-needed breakthrough by dismissing both the set batters in his two successive overs.
After the dismissals of both these batsmen, once the new ball arrived, none of the middle or lower order batters could stand England's high-class swing bowling. The team got bundled at 179 to lose the match by an inning and 85 runs.
Ollie Robinson, James Anderson, and Ben Stokes returned with four, three and two wickets, respectively. Jack Leach, though remained wicketless, conceded only 26 runs in 23 overs.
Ben Stokes said, "Amazing to come back from last week's disappointment at Lord's. [It] Gives us a lot of confidence back and sets the series up nicely for the last game at The Oval. As the series is leveled, the much-awaited decided match will be seen on 8th September at the Oval.
