Dugout News : Golden duck and Golden arm
After skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss, SRH had to bowl first in the scorching heat of Mumbai
But what probably came as a sigh of relief was the wicket of Virat Kohli on the very first ball of the inning bowled by left-arm spinner Jagadeesha Suchit. The Wankhede stands were still filling when Virat Kohli got dismissed most softly, chipping a catch to short mid-wicket in the hands of Kane Williamson. It was Kohli’s third golden duck of an IPL season in which he has only 216 runs to show in 12 matches at a strike rate of 111.34.
“Such a great game. Such a cruel game.” tweeted Harsha Bhogle after the dismissal of Virat Kohli.
Dinesh Karthik’s assault in the end
In the middle overs, Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers took control over the pace of runs flowing as Royal Challengers Banglore skipper Faf du Plessis had no stopping with Glenn Maxwell present on the other end. It was Bhuvneshwar Kumar who used his death over experience to dismiss Maxwell. However, to no relief, Dinesh Karthik played a brilliant cameo to give a perfect ending to RCB’s innings. In eight balls faced, he smashed four sixes and a boundary to score 8-ball 30 at a strike rate of 375.00.
Michael Vaughan praised the batter on Twitter and said, “DK has to be in the Indian T20 World Cup team... #IPL2022.”
Hasaranga spins huge victory for RCB
With Kane Williamson’s run out on the first ball, SRH had a terrible start to their batting as Abhishek Sharma got out in the first over. SRH batters could never provide momentum to the run chase after being caught in a string of defeats. When the team tried to build momentum, RCB spinner Wanindu Hasaranga spun a web of spins in the 16th over, going for a maiden two-wicket over. He achieved a fabulous fifer conceding just 18 runs in his spell of four overs.
Former cricketer Harbhajan Singh tweeted, “Congrats @RCBTweets for the win. A brilliant five-fer from @Wanindu49 made sure they stayed in the race to the play-offs! #RCBvsSRH #IPL2022 #RCB”
