Delhi Capitals Skipper Rishabh Pant on Players Taking Different Roles
Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant talked about the team management devising roles for the players in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL)
Pant guided the franchise to the playoffs in 2021 during his captaincy debut.
He is keen on starting the new season with a positive mindset and is excited to work with a bunch of newcomers in the field.
He showed up for his first training session with the side in Mumbai.
Regarding their training, he had a few words to share, "At the moment, we are trying to understand what the new players need during nets sessions.
"We are discussing the roles the players can take up during matches and the kind of team environment we would like to set up."
"We have spoken to the new players about the team environment we've had in the last few years," as stated by the wicketkeeper/batter.
"It seems like the team has been made for the first time. I observed every player during my first practice session with the team and it looks like everybody is in a good frame of mind. Everybody is enjoying each other's company."
He further added on about his experience with head coach Ricky Ponting for the second time as the captain.
According to him, "It's always a special meeting Ricky Ponting. Whenever I meet him, it feels like I am meeting a family member.
"And he always brings the energy out of every player on the field. Everyone looks up to him and waits for him to say something different."
Likewise, Delhi Capitals' head coach Ricky Ponting is counting on the players retained by the franchise to guide the youngsters in the team.
"The guys who have been in the Delhi Capitals camp for a while definitely have the responsibility of guiding the youngsters in the team.
"Rishabh's captain, so he's going to do that anyway, but guys like Prithvi, Axar and Nortje will also have their roles and responsibilities within the team," the former Australian skipper added.
Among the old members, the team had skipper Rishabh Pant, spin all-rounder Axar Patel, opener Prithvi Shaw, and South Africa pacer Anrich Nortje before the auction took place.
With several new players in the cut, Ponting is fixated on learning more about them before the new season starts.
"I have told the boys to keep their doors open when they are in their rooms and get to know each other. I am going to have breakfast, lunch and dinner with all the younger guys that I don't know," he stated in a media release.
On March 26, 2022, the IPL 2022 opener will feature defending champions Chennai Super Kings against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium.
The Delhi Capitals will square off against the Mumbai Indians in their first match of the season on March 27. Vicky Ostwal, Chetan Sakaria, Sarfaraz Khan, Yash Dhull, and Kamlesh Nagarkoti are among the youngsters in the team.
