David Cup Finals: Announcement of Draw for Group Stages
The International Tennis Federation (ITF) and Kosmos Tennis have announced the draw for the Davis Cup by Rakuten Finals 2022, which took place in Malaga on April 26, 2022.
The Lawn Tennis Association struck a five-year deal to host group matches provided Britain are, in the last 16 has, resolved to host the event in different cities around the country.
Hence, the group stage will spawn across Bologna, Glasgow, Hamburg and Valencia. It will take place during 14-18 September 2022. The top two teams in each group will enter the knock-out stage, set to commence at the Palacio de Deportes José María Martín Carpena in Malaga on 21-27 November 2022. Bologna, Italy
Group A to participate at Unipol Arena will feature 2021 runners-up Croatia besides Italy, Argentina and Sweden at the 2022 Davis Cup Finals. Croatia has won the Davis Cup twice and finished runners-up twice. In 2021, they lost to Russia in the final. If they spend at the top, they will face the runners-up in Group D in the quarter-finals. If they finish second in the group, they will encounter the winners of Group B.
Valencia, Spain
Serbia and Spain have been named in Group B of the Davis Cup Finals slated to open at Pavelló Municipal Font de Sant Lluís. Canada and South Korea are the other teams in the group, although the focus will be on the possible matchup of Novak Djokovic against Rafael Nadal when their nations play. Last year, the latter did not play for Spain while Djokovic pushed Serbia into the semifinals. Serbia replaced last year's champion Russia as they were expelled by the International Tennis Federation for the country's invasion of Ukraine.
