Cricket News: Will Jasprit Bumrah replace Bhuvneshwar Kumar for World Cup T20?
Four years back, when Jasprit Bumrah was still evolving as a bowler, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was at the top of his game and was the first pick in white-ball cricket
But his unproductive records in tests shadowed his performance in white-ball cricket to become a topic of debate.
Bhuvneshwar's potential with the new ball was the other factor that kept his death bowling into the shadows. His dream run continued until the 2019 World Cup, and a hamstring injury came into the picture.
The never-ending wait to recover from the injury witnessed plenty of fast bowlers springing from India's resource pool. One such indispensable talent sprung in that period was Jasprit Bumrah as the leading spearhead of the Indian team. Since 2019 the pacer has taken 144 wickets across international formats playing 67 matches. His economic rate has been phenomenal throughout.
When Bhuvneshwar Kumar recovered and took the field back in 2021 for India, he had to fight for his place again. The indifferent performance in the T20 World Cup, where Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan smashed the bowler pretty hard, further put his future in doubt.
However, the bowler impressed everyone with his performance in IPL 2022 and, thus, was included back in the main squad. With Jasprit Bumrah injured, he led the pace department and the Indian team to a terrific win against Pakistan, bowling a spell of 4/26, marking a solid comeback against the same team on the same ground.
