Cricket News: Top four spinners who will dominate the T20 format
The ICC T20 World Cup 2022 is set to be staged in Australia from 16th October 2022 onwards. The country’s pitches are a paradise for pacers in general. However, a few world-class spinners will likely dominate the pitches as much as seamers
What works as an advantage for spinners is batters risking and attempting to sweep their balls across the ground. The shortest format has recently seen a rise of spin wizards, so let’s look at those expected to dominate the format.
Rashid Khan
He is one of the top spinners in the cricketing world and has asserted his spin dominance in almost every T20 league. He has never left a chance to threaten his opponents, be it IPL, BBL, PSL, or CPL.
It becomes difficult to pick his fast round-arm action and the variations available. His ability to bowl quickly and give a little flight adds to the challenge for any batter to read. Carrying the Afghanistani bowling attack on his shoulder, the bowler has scalped 109 wickets in 61 T20Is at a terrific economy of 6.12.
Yuzvendra Chahal
After being left out of the squad of T20 World Cup squad in 2021, Yuzvendra Chahal has made a terrific comeback with the Indian Premier League 2022. And there is no way that the BCCI can overlook the talent and strength he adds to the team.
Having played 62 T20I matches, he has 79 wickets giving an economy of 8.09. Every IPL season, he has picked 18-plus wickets, which speaks volumes of his consistency.
Wanindu Hasaranga
Ever since he bagged an expensive bid from Royal Challengers Bangalore, the bowler has been proving every critic wrong with every delivery of his. Second highest wicket-taker in IPL 2022, he will be expected to carry the burden of the Sri Lankan team in mega-events.
In just 36 T20Is, he has 62 wickets with a terrific economy rate of 6.61. After the departure of stalwart players like Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara, if any player can lift his team in a struggling time, it is Wanindu Hasaranga.
Adam Zampa
Adam Zampa has been a critical spinner for the Australian team and played a crucial role in last season’s triumph. Thus, the bowler would also invite watchful eyes to play in his backyard this season.
He has been used by the Australian team quite well in the middle-overs and is also tough to pick. Having played as many matches as Yuzvendra Chahal, he has 71 wickets and an excellent economy of 6.79. With his ability to make subtle changes in pace and variations, he makes up for the lack of prodigious turn.
