Cricket News: T20 Vitality Blast - Hampshire Hawks won by 37 runs to battle Lancashire Lightning for the trophy

A reversal of result in the second semi-final! Lancashire Lightning won their semi-final chasing a 200-plus score, whereas Hampshire Hawks won theirs by defending 190

Hampshire Hawks opted to bat first after winning the toss. The decision shocked many, as Lancashire Lightning registered a clinical win while chasing on the same pitch sometime before. But skipper James Vince had complete faith in his bowlers to defend any total that team would post. And for a solid start, while batting first, Hampshire Hawks posted a total of 190 on the scoreboard.

Bowling with the seven bowlers, Somerset failed to build pressure on the opposition and restrict batters. Openers Ben McDermott and James Vince got a rocketing start, scoring at a run rate of 10 before Roelof van der Merwe took James Vince in the fifth over. Tom Prest coming in at third wicket, smashed 64 off 46 beautifully, consisting of 8 boundaries and a maximum. Adding to Tom Prest’s swashbuckling performance, Joe Weatherley and Ross Whiteley played cameos to take the total to 190/6 in 20 overs.

Justice for skipper James Vince; Hampshire bowlers were on top from the start and adapted to pitch quickly. Bowlers kept striking wickets at regular intervals, not giving any chance to Somerset batters to build a stable partnership. Tom Lammonby, coming in at fourth, was the leading run-scorer by fetching 34 off 27. While the top order still added a few runs, the middle and lower order failed to cushion the chase game and contribute much. The team got bundled out from 126/5 to 153/10 in no time as Nathan Ellis returned with a three-wicket haul.

Hampshire Hawks are all set to clash with Lancashire Lightning in the final match. James Vince has already won the toss and opted to bat first and will look forward to continuing the momentum from the previous game.
