Cricket News: Suryakumar Yadav overtakes Babar Azam in latest T20I rankings
Indian star Suryakumar Yadav has continued his recent push to become the best T20I batsman in the world after moving ahead in the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men's Player Rankings
Yadav was impressive with a classy 46 in India's narrow defeat to Australia in Mohali in the opening match of the three-match series on Tuesday, helping him inch closer to Pakistan opener Mohammad Rizwan's top of the T20I batting rankings.
The right-hander has moved ahead of Pakistan captain Babar Azam to third place in the latest T20I rankings for batters released by the ICC on Wednesday, with Rizwan only 45 rating points ahead of him.
Rizwan hit a half-century in Pakistan's defeat to England in Karachi on Tuesday and holds a slight lead at the top of the rankings with a career-high 825 rating points.
But South African star Aiden Markram (792 rating points) and Yadav (780) are within striking distance and have a chance to top the rankings less than a month ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.
Babar drops to fourth in the current rankings after underperforming in the Asia Cup, scoring 31 points in the series opener against England.
