Cricket News: Royal One Day Cup Review Group A - Cheteshwar Pujara dazzles again in England for Sussex
The Royal One day had an exciting cricket day on 23 August. The day was packed by a mammoth total of 400 from Sussex Sharks
Sussex Sharks registered a mammoth 157-run win against Middlesex, whereas Somerset secured a 14-run win against Warwickshire.
Cheteshwar Pujara slammed the third ton of the campaign to help Sussex Sharks register their highest one-day score of 400 to secure a home semi-final. Sussex opener Tom Alsop scored an unbeaten 189 off 155, whereas Cheteshwar Pujara smashed 132 off 90 to power innings for Sussex. Middlesex kept losing wickets at regular intervals, eventually getting bowled out at 243 and losing by 157 runs.
Somerset's 14-run win knocked Warwickshire out of the contest, who failed to chase a 267-run target despite being in a strong position once. Skipper Will Rhodes and Ethan Brookes added more than 100-run at the 5th wicket, but Somerset's Jack Brooks walked down the middle to return with four wickets and secure a win for his team. Earlier, Lewis Goldsworthy fetched 111, whereas James Rew ended 4-run short of his ton to take the target to 267.
While Sussex and Somerset registered wins while defending their targets, Nottinghamshire Outlaws and Leicestershire Foxes won by chasing the target to secure a place in the quarterfinals.
Nottinghamshire Outlaws' bowlers Toby Pettman and Brett Hutton reduced Surrey to 36/5 before Tom Lawes added his 75 to give their bowlers something to defend. But a target of 182 was nothing for Nottinghamshire. Opener Ben Slater's 82 and Lyndon James' 54 put the team in a solid position to chase the game in 31.5 overs and register an 8-wicket win over Surrey.
Much similar to Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire Foxes bowlers restricted Durham to 198. Beuran Hendricks' disciplined bowling with valuable contribution from other bowlers reduced Durham early to 54/7 before tail-enders added valuable 127 runs. Durham fought back, leaving Leicestershire lingering at 60/6. But Rishi Patel and Arron Liley lifted their side back with a 98-run stand. Finishers then did little left to chase the target in 46.2 overs and two wickets remaining.
