Cricket News: Ricky Ponting prediction for T20 World Cup- India VS Australia in Final

Though India did not advance into the elimination rounds of the 2021 T20 World Cup in UAE, Ricky Ponting chose Rohit Sharma's led-Indian team to reach the finals along with Australia. Not only did he give his take on the two teams clashing in the finals, he felt that the hosts would defeat the Indian team in the championship game at Melbourne Cricket Ground. 

"I think India and Australia will be the two playing in the final and I will just have to say that Australia will beat them in the final," Ricky Ponting told the ICC.

The former Australian captain has served as an assistant coach for Australia under Justin Langer and has been closely associated with Indian players and new talent via the Indian Premier League. After having a close look and analysing, he feels the two-time World Cup-winning title needs a knack of luck, and since Australia has it in their backyard, they do have the advantage of it.  

Under Virat Kohli, India failed to put forward the required performance at the T20 World Cup in UAE, as they exited the competition losing to Pakistan and New Zealand in Super 12. However, India has not yet lost a series since last year's World Cup. With series wins against New Zealand, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Ireland, and England, India is playing an aggressive style of cricket.

When asked about a team who can be a potential threat to Australia, Ponting named England as they have potential match-winners, and apart from them, New Zealand has emerged to do better at such events. He added, "I really think England are a strong white-ball team. It is India, Australia, and England teams which can do better in the mega event."
