New Zealand defeated Ireland by one run at the Malahide Cricket Club in Dublin despite centuries from Ireland's Paul Stirling and Harry Tector, who scored 120 and 108 runs, respectively. Ten were required off the final over and then three from the last ball, but Hume could not connect with Blair Tickner's delivery, and a single was not enough as the Irish finished on 359-9. New Zealand totalled 360 for six in 50 overs, thanks to a stunning 115 from Martin Guptill. Guptill hit his 18th ODI century with a six off a free-hit, surpassing only his teammate Ross Taylor in that category for New Zealand. Following Guptill's 115 runs off 126 balls dismissal, Nicholls took over and rediscovered his form.
The two-match T20I series against India and the first two ODIs against New Zealand during the current home summer saw Ireland come close to winning, but they were unable to do so. For Ireland, Friday turned out to be the same old scenario.
Cricket Ireland Tweeted
Heart-break for our lads, but hats off to the
for the ODI series win. Martin Guptill was awarded Player of the Match and Multibagger of the Match, while Michael Bracewell was Player of the Series. On we go to the T20I series!
