Cricket News: Jos Buttler and Sidra Ameen named ICC Players of the Month
English captain Jos Buttler has been voted the ICC's Men's Player of the Month for November. In the women's category, the honour went to the Pakistani batter, Sidra Ameen. The International Cricket Council announced the results on December 12, 2022
Jos Buttler earned the award owing to his excellent performance during the remarkable triumph of England over Pakistan at last month's T20 World Cup final in Australia.
He was selected for the honour following a run of form that included his score of 73 runs from 47 balls to help kick off England's campaign at the World Cup with a victory over New Zealand while making his 100th T20I appearance.
Jos Buttler continued his remarkable run after England secured a spot in the knockout stage. He scored 80 runs from 49 balls in a 170-run partnership with Alex Hales while chasing a 169-run target in the semifinal clash against India.
The 32-year-old Englishman scored a valuable 26 runs against Pakistan in the championship match of the T20 World Cup. He then displayed his leadership expertise in the field to help England claim victory.
In a press release issued by ICC, Jos Buttler said, "I want to thank the fans for voting for me as the ICC Player of the Month for November. This award is down to the efforts of my teammates in what was the most incredible month of cricket, culminating in winning the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Australia.
Sidra Ameen earned her gong for her brilliant performance with the bat in the recent ODI series against Ireland in Pakistan.
She is the second consecutive winner of the award from Pakistan after her compatriot Nida Dar won the award last month.
The 30-year-old Pakistani opener scored 277 runs in the series while being dismissed just once.
She began the month with the highest score of her career, a remarkable 176 not out in the opening ODI of the series.
Ameen backed it up with 91 runs from 93 balls in Pakistan's nine-wicket victory in the second match of the series.
However, she failed to make much of an impact in the final match of the series, scoring just four runs from eight balls. She capped off the series against Ireland with the Player of the Series and ICC Player of the Month award nonetheless.
After receiving the award, Sidra Ameen said, "Individually, this year has been great for me, I have scored three ODIs centuries and all coming this year. And to top it off, ending the year by winning the ICC Women's Player of the Month for November is just amazing."
