Cricket News: India VS WI-Yuzvendra Chahal and Shubman Gill help India take the series 3-0
A comfortable 119 runs (DLS-Method) win for India against West Indies. The host gave tough competition to the visitors in the first two ODIs, but this third one was dominated by India altogether
The consistent strong opening partnership for India, which was taken further by Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer, steered India to 225/3 in 36 overs. But the absolute dominance started with Mohammed Siraj taking two wickets in his first over, and the host was never in the game after that.
Indian Captain Shikhar Dhawan said, "My boys are young in age but played maturely. They showed common sense and handled themselves well. The whole team performed, which is important."
Earlier in the day, after winning the toss, Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill gave a solid 113-run partnership for the first wicket. But soon after Shreyas Iyer came to bat, the rain took the wildcard entry, and the match got delayed.
The overs were reduced to 36, and then Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer started accelerating the total, knowing that DLS might get into the picture anytime. Shubman Gill stayed not out on 98 in 98 balls and was well supported by Shikhar Dhawan's 58 and Shreyas Iyer's 44-run innings. India ended on 225/3 with a run rate of 6.25.
"I was expecting to get 100. It was not under my control as it rained, but I was happy with my innings.", said Shubman Gill after he won the man of the match series.
After the last two games, strong expectations were from the host, but Mohammed Siraj broke the momentum before it was even created for West Indies. Kyler Mayers and Sharmarh Brooks both were back in 3 balls.
Every bowler had a wicket to their name except Deepak Hooda, who kept his spell tight. Nicholas Pooran (42) and Brandon King (42) tried to fight back, but Indian bowlers took wickets regularly. Yuzvendra Chahal ensured the host's lower end didn't show any firepower.
It was a complete bowling effort from team India, which included four wickets by Yuzvendra Chahal two wickets by Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj, and one wicket by Axar Patel and Prasidh Krishna.
West Indies showed their strength but couldn't hide their weakness as well. With the whitewash, this is the 9th consecutive ODI loss for the West Indies, and for India, these 119 runs were the biggest margin win in ODI played in the Caribbean Islands.
On the other hand, India had a very successful tour, as many of the players on the radar proved their game. India will now move for the Zimbabwe series, where Virat Kohli is also expected to play.
