Cricket News: India VS WI - Suryakumar Yadav's 76 helped India lead the series by 2-1
A 7-wicket victory on a slow pitch looked easy when the West Indies bowler couldn't stop Suryakumar Yadav
Chasing a total of 165 after Rohit Sharma had to go back because of injury put a lot of responsibility on Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer. They kept the game as India lost their first wicket at 11.3 over 105.
"Was important for someone to bat 15-17 overs after Rohit went back inside. We saw yesterday what happened in the second innings. Was important for someone to bat deep and win the game, that's what I've focussed on", said Suryakumar Yadav on winning the man of the match.
During his innings of 76 runs in 44 balls, Suryakumar Yadav showed his versatility and range with his four sixes. He was looking nothing short of India's Mr. 360.
Harsha Bhogle tweeted, "I hope you can bottle and seal the form @surya_14kumar is in. We will need to be reminded that he did play some of the shots he is playing these days."
A run-chase well settled by Suryakumar Yadav was finished by Rishabh Pant's four. He ended the game with a four and one over left.
Earlier in the day, India invited West Indies to bat first. The openers, Brandon King and Kyler Mayers, gave an excellent start to the team. They together scored 57 runs before Hardik Pandya bowled Brandon King in 7.2 overs.
Kyler Mayers went on to bat beautifully, being the lead architect of the host's total. He was trapped by Bhuvneshwar Kumar with bouncers and had to go at a score of 73, leaving West Indies on a score of 128/3 in 16.2 overs.
Another tight middle-over spell from Ravichandran Ashwin, Hardik Pandya and superb death over bowling by left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh kept the hosts under control. "How we bowled in the middle overs was crucial. I thought we used the conditions well. Used the variations well.", said skipper Rohit Sharma.
"Arshdeep Singh is currently passing every exam Rohit is asking him to appear for. Bowled over no 6 and then three on the trot at the death. 1-33 from 4 overs is excellent when you are bowling all the difficult overs", said Harsha Bhogle on Twitter.
India will be happy with many positives for them in the match. From Suryakumar Yadav's innings to Arshdeep Singh keeping his spell tight during tricky overs. West Indies, on the other hand, still had to work on their capabilities of finishing the innings with the bat.
The 5-match series now stands as India leading 2-1. Both teams will go to Florida for the remaining two games, from 6th August.
