Cricket News : India Vs Leicestershire
India will lock horns with England for the fifth and final test on 1st July 2022 at Birmingham. India currently leads the series by 2-1 and will look to win it to grab points for the World Test Championship
To prepare for it, the team is playing a warm-up match in Leicestershire to gain the red-ball intensity after two months of IPL. While Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja are back after quite a long break, Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara will look to make their case strong for selection at Edgbaston. To ensure that all touring members get adequate practice, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Hanuma Vihari, Shreyas Iyer, Srikar Bharat, Shardul Thakur, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj have formed the Indian team. Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, and Prasidh Krishna are part of team Leicestershire, with Sam Evans leading the side.
The practice match also enjoyed a viewership of 60,000-plus fans watching it as they saw two Indian stars battle: Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna bowling against Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
Rohit Sharma scored 25 off 47 before he edged a pull shot off Roman Walker. Just before this, he was tested by Jasprit Bumrah for an in-cutter, leaving the test captain in slight discomfort when the ball hit him in the groin region. While most of the batters got dismissed playing loose shots, Virat Kohli took time to settle on the crease patiently. He scored nine off 32 avoiding the balls that he struggled with ensuring to play for a long time but got dismissed at 33 off Roman Walker.
The main highlight of the match was 21-year-old Roman Walker, who is yet to play a First-class game, dismissing the stalwarts of India, i.e., Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hanuma Vihari, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shardul Thakur and completed his fifer. A dream spell from the youngster.
