Cricket News: India Vs England, two Indian teams in action simultaneously
An exciting day for Indian cricket fans as two Indian teams will be playing two different matches simultaneously in the same country
A T20 side will be in action with a warm-up game, while Jasprit Bumrah's side will be locking horns with England for the final test match.
Sky Sports will launch an innovation in their cricket coverage in England's fifth test match against India. In the game, England's Ollie Pope will be seen wearing a camera on his helmet while fielding at short leg.
This would be the world's first Test cricket to see such innovation being used on the field and has been approved by both the International Cricket Council (ICC) and England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). This initiative will run on a trial basis, confirmed Danny Reuben, Head of Elite Communications, ECB and is aimed at enhancing TV production. The remarkable thing about this camera is that it would not pick up any noise, so there are no concerns about what players communicate during the game.
Danny Reuben said, "The camera will be on the short-leg helmet and will only be used as an additional angle to enhance the viewer experience. There will be no audio, just video and it will be used selectively for a different angle."
Sky experimented with similar innovations in the first edition of The Hundred last year. In that match, Tom Moores wore a camera while wicket-keeping, capturing some fantastic shots as he took a top-edged catch.
Why was Ollie Pope chosen and that too at the short leg?
Ollie Pope has been an outstanding fielder, incredibly close to the bat. He has taken many superb catches at short leg in recently concluded New Zealand's tour of England. And considering Ben Stokes' approach with bowlers, specifically Jack Leach, Ollie Pope is likely to be under the lid throughout the match.
Edgbaston- Another challenge to conquer for team India after Gabba
Jasprit Bumrah will be seen leading the pack in his first-ever captaincy stint in the Test match at Edgbaston against Ben Stokes-led England starting July 1. The game is crucial for the team as India has a forgettable record at the venue. They have lost six of the seven matches played at Edgbaston since 1967, while one ended in a draw in 1986. On the other hand, England successfully registered the highest total of 710/7 at the pitch in 2011 against India but lost their last two tests against New Zealand (2021) and Australia (2019).
India vs Derbyshire
While India will be looking forward to registering a historic win in the match and, thus, the series, the Indian limited-overs side will be playing their first warm-up match against Derbyshire. India's limited-overs side will play a couple of warm-up games before clashing against Jos Buttler-led English side. The warm-up match will commence after Birmingham's first day's play ends. After winning the two-match T20I series against Ireland, Hardik Pandya is all set to lead the team in India's limited-overs first T20I against England.
