Cricket News: English county matches review-Somerset VS Lancashire Lightning

 

DIVISION ONE

Day1 for Division one began with Yorkshire Vikings building a total of 364/5 against Surrey after choosing to bat first. Opener Adam Lyth stitched a stunning six-wicket partnership with Jonathan Tattersall staging one of the best comebacks as they lost the middle order to Surrey bowlers. Adam Lyth and Jonathan Tattersall will resume play from unbeaten scores of 152 and 104 to expand the total. 

Apart from Yorkshire Vikings, Somerset ended the day with 297/5 against Lancashire Lightning after their key batter Lewis Goldsworthy smashed a century in partnership with James Rew (70). Goldsworthy will restart the play with Lewis Gregory on the other end. 

For Northamptonshire Steelbacks, they got bundled out for a score of 303 by Kent Spitfires after opting to bat. Northamptonshire made a great start even after losing skipper for duck because of Emilio Gay's 112, but Kent Spitfires' Joe Denly triggered the collapse. Thus, the batting side loses its advantage by the end of the day. 

Essex Eagles restricted Gloucestershire to a small total of 136. Simon Harmer took a five-wicket haul to disrupt the batting line-up, and no batter managed to play more than 40 deliveries and anchor the innings. In reply, Essex put up a strong play as Alastair Cook, and Tom Westley remained unbeaten at 61 and 50 to trail by just nine runs at a loss of one wicket.

Hampshire Hawks' bowlers were clinical in bundling out Warwickshire to 217 with the help of Kyle Abbott's fifer. Dom Sibley's 56 and comeback knock of 63 from Nathan McAndrew helped them reach a decent first-inning total. In response, Hampshire Hawks now trail 175 runs at the stumps with seven wickets remaining. 

DIVISION TWO

The opening day for Division two saw an excellent batting intent from Sussex Sharks against Leicestershire Foxes as they batted the whole day to reach 407/4. Sussex opener Alistair Orr's 70 and Tom Alsop's remarkable 150 runs laid the foundation, while Oliver Carter (54*) is taking this total further.

Durham and Nottinghamshire Outlaws restricted Derbyshire Falcons and Glamorgan to a total of 283 and 318, respectively and got to bat by the stumps of day 1. For Derbyshire, while it was Leus du Plooy's unbeaten 122 along with Anuj Dal's 90, Glamorgan found their support in lower-order batters to reach a decent total of 318. 

In the fourth match, Worcestershire Rapids bowlers were clinical to confine Middlesex to 188, who found their significant contribution from luke Hollman (62) and Tom Helm (50*). Rapids, in response, found themselves trailing by 88 runs but with a loss of 5 wickets by the end of day 1.
