Cricket News: England VS South Africa 3rd T20I - South Africa defeats England by 90 runs to win the series by 2-1
Winless home white-ball season for Captain Jos Buttler. First India, now South Africa. Grave concerns for England as they lost the decider against Proteas by 90 runs. England played 100 balls to score 101 runs and lost all the wickets
Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram took Proteas to a good total of 191.
England's maiden wicket in the first over was the only good thing that happened to them in the whole game. Put in to bat first, and South Africa managed to put a total of 191 on the scoreboard after losing Quinton de Kock for a duck in the first over.
The team rode on the back of Reeza Hendricks, who first built a 55-run stand with Rilee Rossouw and then an 87-run partnership with Aiden Markram. While Reeza Hendricks and Aiden Markram made their fifties, Rilee Rossouw accelerated the innings with his 31 off 18 and David Miller with 9-ball 22.
Only David Miller held nerves among English bowlers to take a three-wicket haul at an economy of 6.25. In contrast, Reece Topley and Chris Jordan proved expensive, giving 11-plus economy in their 4-over spell.
England's opener failure hands them a humiliating defeat.
Another failure from openers to play at-least powerplay led England to another all-out without playing all the overs. Jonny Bairstow was the only batter who reached over 20 runs while wickets kept falling from the other side.
Proteas spinners, Tabraiz Shamsi's five wickets and Keshav Maharaj's two wickets destroyed England's batting line-up. After taking the first wicket, visitors kept taking wickets at regular intervals, and England's batting line-up looked clueless yet again. The host lost all ten wickets in 16.4 overs.
"We lacked intent and confidence. We never tried to wrestle back the initiative. We haven't performed as well as we have liked." said England's captain, Jos Buttler.
"Disappointing summer for the team, " said Moeen Ali on getting the Player of the Summer award.
With the end of a horrific white ball series, England will move to play The Hundreds, whereas South Africa will tour Ireland from 3rd August 2022.
