Cricket News: England VS India, 3rd T20-England managed to win despite Suryakumar Yadav's maiden T20I ton
As England overcame India by 17 runs in a high-scoring thriller at Trent Bridge, Suryakumar Yadav's brilliant first-ever T20I century (117 off 55 balls) was in vain. India, needing 216 to win, reached 198 for 9 in their 20 overs. With a 2-1 victory, India won the series despite losing the game
The 40-over match witnessing 413 runs and the fall of 16 wickets was a cracking contest.
England, opting to bat first, backed their decision by scoring a mammoth total of 215 in 20 overs. England's inning was well supported by Dawid Malan, who fetched 77 off 39, further accelerated by Liam Livingstone's 29-ball 42. Indian bowlers had an extremely tough time restricting the two batters from playing in boundaries and maximums. A late cameo from Harry Brook (19 off 9) and Chris Jordan (11 off 3) did the remaining job to make the total challenging for India.
In response to defend the total, England bowler Reece Topley and David Willey removed India's top three batters for 31 runs in the powerplay. Suryakumar Yadav walked in when things looked almost impossible for India and took action in command. He played the innings of a lifetime, with Shreyas Iyer on the other end playing a supporting role. The duo made 120 runs in partnership, with the majority of runs coming from Suryakumar Yadav. Dinesh Karthik and Ravindra Jadeja failed to make an impact, whereas Suryakumar Yadav still stood firm, attempting to seal the win for India. With 40 runs needed in 2 overs, he tried to play big shots and lost his wicket to Moeen Ali. Chris Jordan was stunning to defend 19 in the final over with one fielder less available.
After the test defeat, India jumped back strongly in the T20I. With their aggressive approach, they won the T20 series and now will go for a three-match one-day international match from 12th July. The ODI series will be a preparation for next year's ICC World Cup. Virat Kohli's form will be the most crucial aspect to which everyone will look forward.
