Cricket News: Brendon McCullum, The coach England Cricket team needed
England has been a significantly different Test side in the two-Test matches under the leadership of its new head coach and captain, Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes
While they appeared to be on the verge of losing both matches, they pulled off remarkable comebacks on both occasions to win the series.
The team has been playing extraordinary and showing an attitude which every squad seeks. They are not giving up till the last ball of the game leading to a performance which is not possible in a standard scenario.
The England team was devastated before McCullum became captain as they lost 16 of their last 17 matches. Joe Root was not performing well as a captain for England, and it felt like England had no chance of playing effectively in the World Test Championship. Still, now the odds have to turn in their favour considering their current condition as they are full of confidence and know-how to win pressure situations. Credit for this goes to Brendon McCullum's attacking attitude on the field.
Coaching career of Brendon McCullum:
McCullum's coaching experience was limited to white-ball cricket since his departure from the game in 2019. But, with coach Mike Hesson, Brendon McCullum was a vital element of the leadership group that aided New Zealand's rebirth as a Test team from 2012 to 2016.
Besides this, he has been a crucial part of different T20 leagues worldwide and has also been successful in his coaching career.
He was initially associated with a white-ball coaching position before being named England's new Test coach. "I am well aware of the huge problems the team is currently facing, and I am confident in my abilities to assist the team in emerging as a stronger force once we've faced them head on," he said.
McCullum in CPL 2022:
McCullum won the Caribbean Premier League with Trinbago Knight Riders in 2022 and led Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL final last year in Dubai in his brief coaching tenure. According to Key, Eoin Morgan, a close friend of McCullum's and the KKR captain the previous year, was also consulted on the Test side.
McCullum in IPL 2022
With KKR underperforming in the IPL 2022, winning only five of their first 12 games under new captain Shreyas Iyer, McCullum appears as a candidate for one of empty England coaching positions, with new managing director Rob Key dividing the responsibilities across formats.
McCullum's role in the current Test series against New Zealand:
The New Zealand legend is now coaching against New Zealand themselves as he is performing his job as coach for England seemingly well. England's performance also benefits from the fact that Brendon knows about all players of New Zealand, including their strengths and weaknesses.
This factor is helping the England side but only to some extent as there are many new players in the squad, and the New Zealand side has been one of the best in the red-ball format since 2019. Everyone in the team is in good form, including the current captain Stokes and ex-captain Joe root.
England's team, without any doubt, is looking forward to a clean sweep of the current defending champions, New Zealand, with the last push to go. The match will start on 23 June, and day three will be crucial in deciding the game's outcome. Ben Stokes and McCullum are trying their best and leaving no stone unturned for the team so that they may finish this series with a clean sweep.
