Cricket News: BCCI reports that Coach Rahul Dravid testing positive for Covid-19
India's head coach Rahul Dravid has tested positive for Covid-19, just days before the team's opening campaign in the Asia Cup T20 tournament in the UAE. BCCI reports that during a routine test conducted before team departure to UAE, Rahul Dravid tested positive and has mild symptoms
He is under the supervision of the BCCI medical team and will join the team once he returns with a negative Covid-19 report.
This is a massive blow for the team, as Dravid is a vital part of the coaching staff. He did not travel to Zimbabwe for the recently-concluded three-match One-day International series, which the KL Rahul-led side won 3-0. There has been no official announcement, but it is speculated that V V S Laxman, coach for the Zimbabwe series, would be the Head coach for the Indian team
Due to the busy international schedule, the senior selection committee rested the coaching staff, including Dravid, batting coach Vikram Rathour and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey.
It's not clear whether Dravid will join the team for the crucial opening game or fly to the UAE once he gets the all-clear from the Indian cricket board medical staff, said a report.
India's coaching staff, including Dravid, batting coach Vikram Rathour and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, was given a break by the senior selection committee due to the busy international schedule.
India is scheduled to open their campaign in the Asia Cup against arch-rivals Pakistan on August 28.
