Cricket News: Australia could block Chris Lynn's ILT20 deal
The UAE's lucrative T20 league announced Chris Lynn as one of its marquee signings for the first season. However, the former Brisbane Heat Star may not be able to participate in the league
It is believed that Cricket Australia could block Chris Lynn's plan to play some other league to protect the integrity of their own Big Bash League. After parting ways with Brisbane Heat, he is currently without any BBL deal for the upcoming season and is yet to apply for clearance to feature in UAE's ILT20.
Cricket Australia spokesperson said, "Cricket Australia has not received any applications for No Objection Certificates pertaining to a player's [Chris Lynn] participation in any overseas competitions for the upcoming season".
Knowing the state and concerns of Cricket Australia, former Australian legend Adam Gilchrist believes that since Chris Lynn is not under any central contract with the Australian Board, they should not restrict the player from any opportunity outside Australia.
Adam Gilchrist said, "I still don't quite understand how Chris Lynn can be denied the opportunity to go and play in the UAE. Perhaps if he signs with a Big Bash team, maybe because he's an Australian under an Australian contracting system, they might deny it."
"But I don't understand how they can have a hold on him if he doesn't play in the Big Bash but goes over to the UAE. He's not on a contract in any way shape or form in Australian cricket at the moment I am led to believe, so I'm not sure how they can have a hold on him," he added.
The regulations of the Australian board dictate that any player, who does not hold any contract with BBL club or Australian state, still requires clearance from the board to play overseas domestic leagues. Thus, Cricket Australia could stand in the way of Chris Lynn's participation in the ILT20 while BBL faces the challenge of recruiting overseas talent.
