Cricket News: Asia Cup - Bangladesh Announces the squad
After multiple delays and much waiting, Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced Bangladesh's squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022
The team was expected to be announced on 8th August but got an extension of the deadline as many players were injured.
The squad announced for Asia Cup witnessed the absence of their most notable opener Litton Das owing to injury but is further strengthened by the inclusion of players like Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahman, Mohammad Saifuddin, and Ebadat Hossain. Mohammad Saifuddin is making a comeback in T20I ten months after featuring last in the previous T20 World Cup, where he was ruled out due to his back injury.
Apart from Litton Das, Nazmul Hossain and Shoriful Islam are the key players who surprisingly failed to cut the squad.
Squad: Shakib Al Hasan (c), Anamul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Afif Hossain, Mosaddek Hossain, Mahmud Ullah, Mahedi Hasan, Mohammad Saifuddin, Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman, Nasum Ahmed, Sabbir Rahman, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Ebadot Hossain, Parvez Hossain Emon, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Taskin Ahmed.
Slotted in Group B, their campaign will kick start on 30th August 2022, with the first fixture against Afghanistan.
Nurul Hasan was named skipper for the recent tour of Zimbabwe following Mahmud Ullah's failure as a skipper. Shakib Al Hasan, who was already leading the side in tests, will now take the reins for the upcoming Asia cup, tri-series in New Zealand and even the T20 World Cup.
"Shakib al Hasan is the captain till the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup," BCB cricket operation chairman Jalal Yunus told reporters. "He admitted that he made a mistake (signing the deal with Betwinner News) and he said that won't make any further mistakes and we are hopeful," he said.
His role as skipper across the format remains uncertain after the 2022 T20 World Cup considering the differences going on between Shakib Al Hasana and the board.
