Cricket News: AB De Villiers retires from cricket
AB De Villiers underwent an operation that excluded him from all top cricket matches
Former South African captain and one of the most loved cricketers globally, AB de Villiers, will now not be able to play any competitive cricket.
He has been ruled out of returning to top-level competitive cricket after he underwent eye surgery due to retinal detachment earlier this year.
AB de Villiers retired from international cricket in May 2018 but continued to play in domestic leagues. However, in November 2021, he announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. He missed out on IPL 2022, and fans have been urging him to reconsider his call and return to the field, especially looking at the terrific comeback that Dinesh Karthik made.
On his plans, he said, "I will go to Chinnaswamy Stadium next year. But not for playing cricket. I will apologize to the RCB fans for not winning the IPL title so far. I also want to thank them for their support over the past decade. I can't play cricket anymore. Because I had surgery on my right eye."
He even added his plan to start his own YouTube channel, and Virat Kohli would be one of the first guests on his show.
The former cricketer declined the offer to play in the Legends League.
"I am too old now. Legends League seems to be a lot of fun. I was invited, but I had an eye operation. I know you might think I can play with one eye but I would rather not do that."
He even declined the plans to coach any team in future. "I am definitely not planning to coach a team. I am not going to be joining a team, coaching and travelling the world again. I am very happy to spend a bit of time at home," he said.
