Scotland's Chris Greaves is hoping to help his adopted country qualify for the 50-over World Cup as they gear up for the upcoming qualifying tournament.

The South Africa-born 32-year-old moved to Scotland in 2012 and has remained there ever since. Greaves, who plays his club cricket for Grange in Edinburgh, has been involved with the national team since 2019 and takes great pride in turning out for his adopted country.

"Absolutely, it's my new home now," he said. "I've settled in very much. It's my home from home. Putting on the thistle is always a very proud moment for me."

Greaves is currently with the Scotland squad in Zimbabwe as they finalise preparations for the qualifier, which gets under way in the African nation this weekend and runs into July.

The Scots, who lost to West Indies on Tuesday, play their final warm-up match against the hosts on Thursday before kicking off the tournament against Ireland next Wednesday.

"I think we're all ready," said Greaves. "On a personal level, I'm very excited. It brings great excitement to potentially play in an ODI World Cup in India.

"The guys are looking forward to a bit of competitive cricket."

As well as Ireland, the Scots are also in a five-team group alongside Sri Lanka, Oman and UAE, with the top three teams from each section going forward to the Super Six stage to play for the two remaining World Cup spots.

Greaves is confident he and his colleagues can make it to the global showpiece in India in the autumn.

"Absolutely, we definitely believe we can qualify," he said. "We know it's going to be tough and we have to be on it but we definitely believe we can get there.

"Every game's tough for an associate country so playing for Scotland we know every game's going to be difficult but we've shown in the past we can beat full members so we believe that if we stand together we can beat anyone on our day."
